Mechanical Engineering Industrial Visit to Varahi Underground Hydroelectric Power Plant, Hosangadi, Udupi

Industrial visits provide the students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. It gives the students an exposure to current work practices as opposed to theoretical knowledge being taught in their college classrooms.
To get practical knowledge and to give an insight into the way things work in a real-life scenario, students of 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering (23 members) at Beary’s Institute of Technology, Mangalore visited Varahi Underground Hydroelectric Power Plant, Hosangadi, Udupi on 15th June 2023 as a part of an Industrial visit, assisted by 2 faculty members – Prof.Vinod Kumar N and Prof. Prithviraj M.

The Varahi Underground Power House is an impressive hydroelectric power plant that generates electricity by harnessing the power of flowing water. It is a significant source of renewable energy and an excellent example of sustainable power generation. The visit to this power plant is an excellent opportunity for students to insight practical knowledge and exposure to the functioning of hydroelectric power plants.

The students will have an opportunity to tour the plant facilities, many phases of electricity generation and distribution. Technical staff explained about plant operations, the power plant has many parts, such as the turbines, generators, transformers, and other control systems, will be visible to the pupils.

We are confident that this industrial visit will be a valuable learning experience for the students and will help them to gain a deeper perceptive of hydroelectric power generation and its practical applications.
