IPR & Patent Filing Process

On 6th August 2021, Departments of Civil, Computer Science & Engineering and IQAC organized a Talk on IPR- Patent Filing Process. The speaker of the session was Mr. Ajith B S, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Convener of Research & Development Advisory Committee (RDAC) at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru, India. The program was presided by Dr. S.I Manjur Basha, Principal, Prof Mohammed Sinan, Asst Professor, Computer Science and Engineering, Prof Zaheer Ahmed HOD, Civil Engineering BIT Mangalore and faculties of various departments witnessed the program offline and students of final year from various department attended the function online.

Mr. Ajith B S, in his key note address explained Intellectual Property Rights, Categories of IPR, Main fields of applications of IPR, Types of Patented Application, what can be patented and what cannot be patented, Essential documents with patent application and how to apply and all procedures, and what are the different stages of Patent application. Objectives of the IPR Talk were to introduce the concept of Intellectual Property Rights and its various forms, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets, explain the role of IPR in incentivizing innovation, protecting creators’ rights, and contributing to economic growth and discuss real-world examples of successful IPR utilization and the impact on industries. Along with that this talk Highlighted the ethical and legal considerations related to intellectual property protection.

The IPR talk provided a valuable platform for students and faculty members to explore the multifaceted world of intellectual property rights. By fostering a deeper appreciation for IPR, the event contributed to nurturing a culture of innovation, creativity, and respect for intellectual property in the college community. Future initiatives of a similar nature will undoubtedly continue to enrich the intellectual and professional growth of the participants.
