Mangalore, April 28: Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT), Mangalore, observed World Earth Day 2025 with an engaging programme held at the International Seminar Hall on April 28. Organised by the Department of Civil Engineering and Basic Science, the event was held under the theme “Our Power Our Planet,” focusing on the importance of protecting nature and encouraging environment-friendly lifestyles.
Dr. Bhagya B. Sharma, Deputy Director, Centre for Environmental Studies, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), delivered a powerful talk titled “Powering the Future: The Earth Day Call to Action”, where she emphasised the importance of using clean energy and inspired students to find innovative ways to care for the planet.
Following her session, Dr. Purushothama C.T. from the Civil Engineering Department addressed the audience with a talk on “Sustainability: The Revolution Earth Needs”. He stressed the importance of practical steps and shared ideas on how to face current environmental challenges.
Dr. Altamashuddin Khan, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, welcomed the gathering and encouraged students to take an active role in environmental conservation. Dr. S. I. Majur Basha, Principal of BIT, shared an important message about individual responsibility and everyday efforts to safeguard nature.
More than 200 students, along with faculty members from the institute, participated in the programme, which fostered meaningful discussions and inspired collective efforts towards a greener future.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Pooja K, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering Department, who appreciated the contributions of all speakers, organisers, and attendees for making the event a success.
