Mangaluru: Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT) , in association with the BIT NSS Unit, organised an Anti-Drug and Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme titled “A Safe Mind. A Safe Campus. Say No to Ragging & Drugs” at the International Seminar Hall on August 24. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and ragging and to promote a safe, healthy and responsible campus environment.
The programme began with Mr. Mustafa Khaleel welcoming and inviting the dignitaries and guests to the dais, followed by a prayer.
Ms. Avvabi Shahna, 7th Semester E&C, served as the Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the event and coordinated the proceedings of the programme.
Prof. Mohamed Sinan, Vice Principal, BIT, delivered the welcome address and presidential remarks. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a safe, disciplined and positive atmosphere on campus and encouraged students to contribute towards building a respectful and responsible campus community.
Mr. Mustafa Khaleel introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Puneeth Goankar, who addressed the gathering on the importance of staying away from drugs and ragging. He highlighted their serious physical, mental and social consequences and urged students to make responsible choices. He also emphasised the importance of mutual respect, discipline, awareness and cooperation among students in creating a safe and supportive campus environment.
During his address, Mr. Puneeth Goankar also created awareness among students about the importance of following traffic rules and maintaining road safety. He stressed that violations of traffic regulations can endanger not only the individual but also other road users. He further spoke about cybercrime and cyber safety, cautioning students against online fraud, misuse of social media, sharing personal information and other cyber-related risks. He advised students to remain vigilant and responsible while using digital platforms and the internet.
Dr. S. I. Manjur Basha, Director, BKC, also addressed the students and advised them to strictly stay away from drugs and ragging and to uphold discipline and responsible behaviour on campus. He highlighted the importance of following traffic rules and practising safe road behaviour. He also cautioned students about the growing risks of cybercrime and advised them to use social media and digital platforms responsibly, protect their personal information and remain alert to online fraud and other cyber threats.
Dr. Mohamed Kafeel Delvi, NSS Programme Officer, witnessed the gathering and extended his support for the successful conduct of the awareness programme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. S. I. Manjur Basha, Director, BKC, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, faculty members, NSS volunteers and students for their valuable participation and support in making the programme a success.
