World Green Building Week (WGBW), celebrated globally from 09 to 14 September 2024, was observed with great enthusiasm by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Bearys Institute of Technology. The event aimed to create awareness on sustainable infrastructure, green technologies, and the role of digital innovation in promoting an eco-friendly future.
Objectives of the Event
- To promote awareness about green building concepts and environmental sustainability.
- To highlight the role of technology in developing smart and energy-efficient infrastructure.
- To encourage students to contribute ideas for sustainable campuses and smart green solutions.
- To align with global initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and promote responsible living.
Activities Conducted
- Inaugural Session (09 September 2024)
The event was inaugurated by the Head of the Department, who emphasized the importance of sustainable development and how computer science innovations can contribute to achieving carbon-neutral campuses. Students were briefed on WGBW themes and the upcoming activities for the week.
- Expert Talk on “Green Technologies in Smart Cities” (10 September 2024)
An expert session was delivered by invited resource persons focusing on the integration of ICT, IoT, AI, and data analytics in energy-efficient building design, waste management systems, and smart resource monitoring. The talk highlighted the increasing use of environmental data modeling and smart automation for green city planning.
- Campus Green Audit Awareness Drive (11 September 2024)
CSE students participated in an on-campus awareness activity, learning about energy consumption, e-waste handling, and sustainable IT practices. Students conducted small surveys on power usage in labs and proposed suggestions for reducing energy wastage.
- Poster Presentation Competition (12 September 2024)
A poster competition was organized on themes such as Renewable Energy Solutions, AI for Sustainability, Smart Water Management, and Green Building Concepts. Students presented creative ideas combining technology and environmental responsibility. The best posters were awarded certificates.
- Coding Challenge on “Green Algorithms” (13 September 2024)
The department hosted a mini coding challenge where participants designed algorithms optimized for low computational energy usage, exploring concepts such as efficient searching, low-power computing, and eco-friendly data handling. This activity encouraged students to think about the hidden carbon footprint of computing.
- Tree Plantation & Green Pledge (14 September 2024)
To mark the culmination of WGBW, faculty members and students participated in a tree plantation activity on campus. Participants took a Green Pledge to adopt sustainable habits, reduce digital waste, and contribute positively to environmental conservation.

The CSE Department’s observance of World Green Building Week 2024 was highly impactful and informative. The week-long celebration reinforced the commitment of the institution towards sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
