The Department of Civil Engineering organized an Industrial visit on 16th July, 2024. The 2nd and 3rd year civil engineering students accompanied by three civil engineering faculty Mr. Anjan Kumar, Mr. Prasanna Poojary and HoD, Dr. Nalini E Rebello, visited the QCRETE Ready Mix Concrete Plant located at Baikampady. The plant is known for its systematic production of concrete, and is automated, with requirement of the client fed into a computer. Concrete Grades varying from M15 to M60 are being produced at the rate of 1m3/ minute. Various type of concrete including fiber-reinforced and self-compacting concrete are available. The significance of Cement substitutes such as GGBS and Flyash were demonstrated. Students learnt about aggregate sizes, various cements, admixtures, curing processes, workability, transit mixer and design parameters. From this visit, students understood the RMC working process, water cement ratio to be added, the role of admixtures, the fastest mixing process, batching and mixing elements, and the applications of Basic Material Testing (BMT) laboratory experiments were also seen on site.
