The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an engaging Workshop on Innovation and Ideation for COMEDKAR First Year students on 11 December 2024. The session aimed to ignite creativity, problem-solving skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset among the newly joined engineering students.
Objective of the Workshop
- To introduce first-year students to the fundamentals of innovation and creative thinking.
- To help students develop the ability to identify societal and technological problems.
- To train them in ideation techniques used for generating feasible and impactful solutions.
- To motivate students to participate in future hackathons, startup initiatives, and project-based learning activities.
Session Highlights
- Introduction to Innovation
The workshop began with a brief introduction to the importance of innovation in engineering. The resource person explained how emerging technologies are shaping industries and why young engineers must cultivate an innovative mindset from the very beginning.
- Ideation Techniques
Students were introduced to various ideation approaches including:
- Brainstorming
- SCAMPER method
- Mind Mapping
- Problem-Reversal Thinking
- Role-Play Ideation
Real-world examples were shared to help students understand how innovative ideas evolve into successful products or solutions.
- Hands-on Activity: Problem Identification & Idea Pitching
Participants were divided into small teams and given tasks to:
- Identify real-life problems from education, society, environment, or technology.
- Propose creative ideas to solve the selected problems.
- Prepare a quick pitch and present their solution to the group.
This activity encouraged collaborative thinking, communication skills, and practical application of ideation methods.
- Interaction & Guidance
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A where students discussed their ideas and received helpful feedback from the trainer. Students were encouraged to take forward their ideas for future innovation challenges and startup competitions.
