Department of Basic Science has organized an invited talk on “ROLE OF MATHEMATICS IN ENGINEERING” for the 1st Year students at International Seminar Hall, Bearys Institute of Technology, Mangalore on 13th May 2019. The resource person for this program was Dr. Balachandra S. Hadimani, who is presently working with the Department of Mathematics, MIT – Manipal, as an Assistant Professor having specialized in Differential Geometry and Numerical analysis.
The program began with an invocation of Almighty, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Anjum Khan, Head of the Department, Basic Science. Dr. Vinutha P. R., Head of the Department, Physics, introduced the speaker. Dr. Aziz Mustafa, Director of BIT Polytechnic, was present and he motivated the students to solve many problems of Mathematics. Dr. Mahabaleshwarappa, Principal of BIT, Also spoke on this occasion.
Dr. Balachandra S. Hadimani, emphasized the importance of Mathematics & research for the developments of engineering applications with specific examples and he continues with an introduction to what Differential equation is and how the differential equation is related in the engineering field. He explained the radius of curvature with examples. He elaborated applications in various domains. In particular, he gave an example of how fuzzy mathematics could be used in traffic control. It was a very interactive session and it gave a deep insight into research in the field of Mathematics and its applications. The lecture started around 2:15 PM and ended around 3:45 PM. The lecture was received with admiration by the students and they also found the slides appropriate. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Sharan Hegde of Basic Science.
