On 27th of February, 2016, the Department of Basic Sciences celebrated National Science Day commemorating the discovery of Raman effect by Indian Physicist Sir C.V Raman on Feb 28th, 1928. On the occasion, Dr. M. N. Satyanarayan, Associate Professor, Dept. of Physics, NITK, Surathkal, was invited as chief guest. He spoke on the opportunities and challenges for engineers in Science and Technology. In his talk, he mentioned about the use of natural resources, such as, solar energy, wind energy, ocean wave energy, and geothermal energy as the source of power generation in future days. He gave a detailed presentation about the natural resources of energy and mentioned opportunities for the research in these areas for the young generation.

Prizes were distributed for the winners of various competitions, which were held on behalf of National Science Day celebration.Mrs. Vinutha P R, Department of Physics introduced the chief guest and welcomed the gathering. Dr. Prameela Kolake, Department of Mathematics and Dr. B. Abdul Rahiman expressed their gratitude to the Chief guest in their speech. Dr. Palakshappa, Principal, Bearys Institute of Technology, in his presidential address reiterated the importance and contributions of basic sciences in day today life. Heads of Department of various departments were present in the programme. Ms. Shahanaz P J rendered vote of thanks. Ms. Ayesha Shalula narrated the programme.
