Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT), Mangalore, celebrated its annual day at its campus in Mangalore on April 4th 2015 in a glittering display of colour, joy and talent from its students.

The program began in the morning at 10.30 AM with the arrival of the chief guest Mr. A B Ibrahim, D.C. Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada District. Mr. Vasudev Kamath, Associate Vice President, Infosys Mangalore was the guest of honour.

In this welcome address, the coordinator of BIT UTSAV, Prof. Sheikh Moideen, HOD of Information Science Engineering, greeted everyone and outlined the underlying significance of BIT UTSAV. BIT UTSAV, he said, is the culmination of a holistic education system adopted at BIT which caters to the body, mind and spirit.

The Principal, Dr. K. Palakshappa, then read out the annual report of BIT for 2014-15. He clearly highlighted the various achievements of the departments, faculty and students and the great strides they had taken in the field of academics, sports and social events.

The Chairman of Bearys Group Mr. Syed Mohamed Beary then spoke and through an illustrative anecdote, outlined the intricate relation that exists between good deeds and salvation. He told the students that being the young generation for the future, they should look for ways to find solutions and not themselves become the problem. He hoped that at least a portion of BIT students would go on to join civil services and defense services so as to serve the country. He advised the students not to look at education as a means to earn a job and instead to look upon it as a solution to the problems of this world. He ended his talk by stating that leadership qualities can be cultivated only by sacrifice.

In his address to the gathering the chief guest Mr. A B Ibrahim said that young people from the region of Dakshin Kannada hardly took to civil services and mostly preferred to go for engineering or medicine. He pointed out that overall about 50% of the students who appeared for civil service exams came from engineering and medical backgrounds. He opined that with a professional degree and training to back them they could make for better administrators. He told the students that the process of appearing for the Civil Services actually helped generate a great deal of self confidence in them and would certainly make them a better human being. With such benefits to look for, he hoped that more and more students would prefer to go for Civil Services.

The Guest of honour Mr. Vasudev Kamath brought in his vast experience of the corporate world to give some extremely useful tips to the students who would shortly be going out from the protective environments of their student days. His moot point of advice to the students was that they need to make efforts to ensure that they become relevant to the society. This, he said, was possible only if they looked for methods to be innovative in their ways of solving problems. Being routine, he said, would take them nowhere since the demands of the corporate sector is always tinted with the requirement of the future and not merely satisfying the requirements of the present. It is for this purpose that students should learn to identify the present needs, project it for the future and come up with appropriate solutions. He illustrated his expert talk with several examples in the corporate world that made the students easily grasp the basis of his talk.

Prizes and mementos were given away to students who excelled in academics, sports and cultural events as a mark of appreciation for their achievements. The distinguished guests who graced the occasions where felicitated by BIT.

Prof. B. Mustafa, head of the department of Computer Science & Engineering, then proposed a vote of thanks. The formal session of BIT UTSAV concluded with the national anthem.

In the afternoon session, students of BIT put up a scintillating performance in a glittering display of talent cutting across, regions, religions and languages. Solo and group songs, solo and group dances, skits, miming, classical dance and even a magic show formed the various items that were on display by the enthusiastic students.
